FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is the Italian Automobile Festival of Speed?

The Italian Automobile Festival of Speed (IAFS) is a combination car show and track event that celebrates the extraordinary design and performance capabilities of these exotic Italian automobiles.

What do I get for my $30 registration fee?

Registered IAFS participants are invited to attend an arrival Reception Friday evening, may enter their car in the Saturday Italian Auto Show, may participate in the organized Forest Excursion drives on Saturday and Sunday, and may attend the Tour and Wine Tasting at the Messina Hof Winery.  You are allowed to enter and show more than one car as long as it/they are of Italian origin.  Full registrants will be provided with an 8X10 color photograph of the cars of their marque taken on the front straight at TWS by professional photographers.  Registrants may also attend the Saturday evening Awards Dinner at Cenare’s at nominal additional cost ($30 per adult, $10 for children).  Finally, registrants may take advantage of significantly reduced IAFS rates for the optional one or two day Driving School conducted on the 2.9 mile Texas World Speedway road course.

You may also register additional adults as your guest/s for $15 each with all the above benefits – except for the marque photograph.  Minors are free.

May I participate in the event if I bring a non-Italian Automobile?

Yes, as an IAFS registrant you may participate in all event activities with the exception of the Italian-only Car Show.

If I attend the event without a car, am I welcome?

Yes, a $15 registration fee allows you to participate in the Friday Reception, the Saturday Drive that concludes at the Messina Hof Winery and the Winery Tour.  It also qualifies you to attend the Saturday evening Awards Dinner at Cenare’s.

There is no fee to view the cars at the car show and the track on Sunday.

When will I receive my IAFS event information?

You will receive a Registration Packet when you check in to the event at the hotel Friday evening or the track Saturday morning.  The packet will include drink tickets for the Friday evening Reception, your parking space assignment for the Saturday Car Show, a route map for the Forest Excursion, a ticket for the Winery Tour/Tasting, a marque photo coupon, a Car Show ballot, dinner tickets (if applicable) for the Awards Dinner, and Driving School information (if applicable).

Is there a fee for my minor children?

No, they are welcome as your guest.  We have also negotiated a discount price for their dinner at Canare’s that includes tax and tip.  Bear in mind, that young children should be watched closely, as cars are entering and exiting the race track constantly.  Pets are not permitted at the facility.

When will the itinerary for the Drive be announced?

The route will be included in your Registration Packet that will be provided to you when you check in at the event.

At the Car Show, What is ‘Peoples Choice’?

At the Car Show, the participants will be the judges and will vote their choices for cars within each marque (i.e. - Ferrari, Fiat etc.) that excel in an area, such as ‘Best Paint’ or ‘Best Ferrari’.  Cars that collect the most votes will win.  The ‘Peoples Choice’ results will be announced at the Saturday evening Awards Dinner.

Is the Forest Excursion a race?

Absolutely not – the Forest Excurson is an organized drive that utilizes the excellent winding local roadways to tour the surrounding forested countryside.  As an adult you are advised to use mature judgment during the event and obey all traffic laws.  We encourage you to satiate your need for speed at the Sunday track event at Texas World Speedway.  That is a safer environment for your car, pedestrians, fellow drivers, your license and yourself.

If I participate in the Track Event, is that a race?

No it is not a race or timed event.  The Track Event is a driving school that will allow you to experience your car’s performance capabilities in a safe and controlled training environment.  In the green class, each student will have an in-car instructor, who will teach driving basics (racing line, turn-in points, braking technique, etc.) and ensure safe spacing of the cars.  In more advanced run groups, the students will be given more opportunities for passing other cars on the track. Drivers will be grouped according to previous track experience and driving skill so that beginners will not be on the track at the same time as faster, much more experienced drivers.  The IAFS Track Event will utilize the challenging 2.9 mile road course at Texas World Speedway, which includes 15 turns and approximately ½ mile of the NASCAR-style banked front straight.

What should I do to prepare my car for the Track Event?

Each vehicle must pass a safety/technical inspection before being allowed on the track.  Technical requirements are established and administered by the individual clubs for each marque.  Contact your club for details.

DOT approved headgear is required for all drivers.

Are loaner/rental cars provided for the Track Event?

No, you drive the car that you bring to the track.
