1972 DeTomaso Pantera - THPNMT05084

Here is the first Pantera I ever owned. I bought it in London in 1983 while I was working in the Shetland Islands north of Scotland. Needless to say, it turned a few heads there on those little islands! Had to look out for the sheep on those backroad runs, too.... ;-)

The car was pretty rusty when I bought it and when I moved from the Shetlands to Aberdeen, I spent quite a bit on it at the local Aberdeen BMW dealer to cut out the rust and paint it like you see it in these pictures.

I also added the 10" Campagnolos, new P7's, rebuilt the suspension with red polyurethane bushings, had the A-arms dipped and cadmium plated, new Holley, the little Boxer style wing on the rear deck, grills in the hood, GTS front spoiler and various other minor stuff. As you can see, it's a right-hand drive car and there's even less legroom on that side! It was a pretty tight squeeze for me...

I sold the car before I went on vacation prior to leaving Aberdeen in 1988 for Indonesia. As far as I knew, the car was OK, but two weeks into my vacation, the new owner called me in the US to say he'd blown the engine. Rod through the block, etc. etc. I saw the car again just before leaving for Indonesia and he'd put a new engine in it.

I had no idea, until recently, whether the car still exists or not. I sold it to a guy called Harvey Knowlson who may or may not still live in Aberdeen. I gave him all the paperwork I ever had for the car.

Thanks to Mike Drew, I was put in touch with Paul Scofield, who now owns the car. As noted above, the serial number is THPNMT05084.
Paul is in the process of restoring the car, so 238HOT is going to see the road again!

Some of the pictures here aren't so 'hot' since I had to make them off of some pretty old slides that were hidden away in the closet.

That's my son, Dylan, at age 3 with the car in front of our house in Dyce, Aberdeen.

Originally wanted a Pantera himself. If not a Pantera, he had his eyes on a 1970 Boss 302. Does this kid have good taste, or what?!!
In the end, he has had a 1990 5.0 Mustang GT, then he bought my brother's 1997 Cobra Mustang and then a 2003 Cobra Mustang which turned 502HP at the rear wheels on the dyno!

He is now working on restoring a Pantera of his own which is seen below. Lots of work to still do.
